Nutrisystem: How Long Does It Take to Lose Weight?
There are a number of variables including your starting weight, activity level, age, and metabolism, but Nutrisystem does give some guidelines as to how much weight you can expect to lose.
The first month of their program is called, “Fresh Start,” a fast weight loss phase in which women can lose 13 pounds while men lose up to 18. After that first month, expect to lose a sustainable 1-2 pounds per week.
If you’re considering joining Nutrisytem or any other diet, it’s good to do your homework. No single diet will work for everyone’s needs, and you should evaluate each one on much more than just popularity and cost. Even though you just saw some inspiring before and after weight loss transformations, really think about whether Nutrisystem will fit your lifestyle and personality.
Transformation or “before and after” photos online are notorious for being faked or Photoshopped. So, we made sure that all of these photos were linked to a legitimate Instagram account, or were verified by Nutrisystem before including.
If you have a Nutrisystem before and after photo in Instagram, please send us a link! Thanks for stopping by Mighty Diets.
If you are on Nutrisystem, you know that it’s not all prepared food. That’s why it’s good to have some go-to appetizer recipes handy like this one for Boneless Honey BBQ Chicken Wings (aka bites or nuggets). which are an especially great alternative to chicken wings for men.
Sorry, back to the recipe! These chicken bites are sweet and tangy, but best of all they’re guilt free if you are on Nutrisystem. They count as one PowerFuel and one extra on the Numi app. Don’t forget to log them, as those who log their food are twice as likely to meet their weight loss goals. Ok, here’s the recipe:
Servings: 6 (3 wings) | Calories: 134 per serving | 1 Power Fuel, 1 Extra
Nutrisystem Boneless Honey BBQ Chicken Wings:
The ingredients for the boneless honey bbq chicken wings are pretty simple. Hopefully you have most of these ingredients in your kitchen already:
One 8 oz. can tomato sauce (no sugar added)
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp. honey
2 Tbsp. tomato paste
1 Tbsp. molasses
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. sea salt
1/4 tsp. freshly-ground black pepper
3 Tbsp. whole-wheat flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. black pepper
12 oz. raw boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into 18 pieces
2 Tbsp. egg whites
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, then place a wire oven safe cooling rack on top (to make the boneless wings crispy!) Mist rack with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
BBQ SAUCE: Combine all ingredients together in a medium saucepan, and whisk vigorously.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will have thickened slightly.
CHICKEN: While sauce is simmering, whisk together flour, salt and black pepper in a large bowl.
In another medium bowl, combine chicken with egg whites and toss to coat.
Remove one chicken wing (aka bite, or nugget) from the egg whites and dip into the flour mixture, turning to lightly coat.
Place coated chicken wing on the cooling rack. Repeat with the remaining pieces of chicken.
Bake chicken nuggets for 8 minutes, then flip. Continue baking until coating is golden brown and crispy, about 8 more minutes.
After chicken has cooled for 2-3 minutes, place chicken wings in a medium bowl.
Pour BBQ sauce over the top, then gently toss with tongs to coat.
Ok, that should be it! If you’re on Nutrisystem (does it work?) I hope you enjoy these guilt-free boneless bbq chicken wings. If you aren’t, check out our featured special below:
When you signup for Nutrisystem, you are automatically enrolled in auto-delivery. That means each month you’ll get a shipment from them and a monthly charge on your credit card unless you cancel.
But, exactly how do you cancel, and is there a penalty?
Yes, there may be a cancellation fee, depending on when you quit. If you are thinking of joining Nutrisystem (we have coupons!), or already have, you’ll need to know about their cancellation policy and how to quit:
#1. Nutrisystem Cancellation Policy
The number one complaint that we could find in Nutrisystem reviews is about their cancellation policy. That’s because a lot of women and men signup for the program without fully understanding how to cancel, and end up surprised by the cancellation fee.
Here’s how it works:
Nutrisystem offers a 14-day money back guarantee, so you can cancel the program without penalty or additional fees during the first 14 days.
However, if you cancel after the 14 days, but before paying for your second shipment, you will be charged a $125 cancellation fee.
In other words, assume that when you signup for Nutrisystem you are committing to at least 2 months, or else you may face a cancellation fee.
Now, in the confusing terms and conditions Nutrisystem doesn’t call it a “cancellation fee,” but instead says, “your payment method will credit Nutrisystem $125 for the weight loss meal auto-delivery discount received on your first shipment.”
Well, if it looks like a cancellation fee, and smells like a cancellation fee, let’s just call it a cancellation fee!
#2. How to Actually Cancel
You have to cancel Nutrisystem by phone.
If you are cancelling your Nutrisystem membership, you must actually call them to do so. You can’t cancel online, so plan to call the cancellation number at 1-800-585-5483 between 8am and 10pm EST to cancel. (Weekend hours: 9am-9pm EST)
You can cancel your auto-delivery of Nutrisystem any time before 6pm the day before your order is scheduled to process by calling 1-800-585-5483.
If you call after that time, Nutrisystem will be unable to cancel or make changes to your order.
If you do cancel your order after it has been processed, you may refuse delivery at your door, but will face a $19.99 shipping fee.
If you have joined Nutrisystem, or are considering joining, know the cancellation policy!
Before Cancelling: Can They Fix Your Issue?
Was there a problem with your first order?
One thing I notice about bad reviews for Nutrisystem online is that they often directly respond to as many as possible, and offer to fix the problem.
If you are cancelling due to problems with shipping or your order, call Nutrisystem customer service at 1-800-585-5483. They will attempt to fix the problem, or may issue you a partial or full refund.
If you just plain hate their food and the diet isn’t for you, they probably can’t help! In that case, you may just want to go ahead with cancellation!
Can You Cancel Without Penalty?
Unfortunately the only way to cancel Nutrisystem auto-delivery without paying a fee is to do so in the first 14 days or after the second month’s shipment.
If you are cancelling after 14 days, but before your second shipment, you may want to consider giving Nutrisystem a second chance to avoid the cancellation fee.
Would changing your menu help?
Users who choose the Basic Plan are more likely to cancel, as they are unable to customize menu options. If so, perhaps you upgrade to Core or Uniquely Yours® for a better experience?
However, if you truly dislike the program, then your only option may be to cancel membership. In that case, cut your losses by paying the $125 cancellation fee, which may be better than getting a second shipment of something you dislike. Ugh!
After joining, you have 14 days to decide whether to continue membership, or you may face a cancellation fee. Unfortunately, this cancellation fee has inspired many women and men to write bad reviews online, who are surprised by its existence.
It’s good to really do your homework before joining any diet or weight loss program. In this case, you’ve read about how to cancel, so hopefully you won’t be surprised by the cost or cancellation policy should you decide to quit or freeze your membership.
However, if you still think there’s a chance Nutrisystem might work for you, consider accepting the second order. That way you won’t get hit by the cancellation fee, and can make an informed decision.

Is there a way to try Nutrisystem for free? Nutrisystem is weight loss program that requires signing up for their monthly meal-delivery. So, does it work, and can you try it out for free?
No, not really, but there are a couple of ways to try the diet out on a trial basis before fully committing. Here’s how:
#1. Nutrisystem at Walmart
Did you know that walmart.com, and even your local Walmart store sells 5-day Nutrisystem kits? It’s true, and if you are on the fence about joining Nutrisystem, it’s a great way to try it out.
Each of the kits comes with 5 days of their popular meals, snacks, shakes, and bars which you then supplement with fresh veggies and fruit from the grocery store. (Keep in mind that men get an extra snack each day) You can pick up one of these kits for about $50. Try it out for a week, and if you don’t like it, you’ve risked very little!
If you decide that their program works for your personality and lifestyle, then you can consider joining. If you do, we can pass on our exclusive coupons here.
*Update: Since posting this I have been told by more than one person that the Walmart kits are a little disappointing, and may discourage people from joining.
#2. Nutrisystem Food on eBay
Who knew you could buy Nutrisystem food a la carteon eBay? It’s true, and you can sort it by: price, meal, shakes, kits, and more. I’ve even seen entire FreshStart® kits on eBay at a discount!
As a new customer you might want to be picky about what you buy, but you might find a lot of Nutrisystem food that looks worth trying!
#3. Try Nutrisystem for a Week…
If you’d like to get the full Nutrisystem experience including FreshStart® for the first week, then you have to join online.
After doing so you only have 14 days to cancel, so try it out, and if the first 10 days or so isn’t working for you, then immediately cancel your membership online. If you cancel after the 14 day “trial” period, (not a free trial) you may have to pay a cancellation fee if you have not yet paid for the second month.
If You Do Join, Make Sure You Get the Best Deal
Committing to Nutrisystem is a significant expense, so know all out the cost before you join. You can also get helpful info from honest reviews and decide if the diet is your style or not.
So, if you opt for signing up, be sure to use their Nutrisystem/Save40 (40% off) special plus a promo code at checkout for the best price.
If you’re a Costco member, there’s more good news. Costco.com sells discount Nutrisystem gift cards which you can use towards your first order, or towards a la carte food in subsequent months.
We even wrote an article about the cheapest way to join Nutrisystem which details exactly how to get the best deal using Nutrisystem gift cards from Costco.com.
Why There is No “Free Trial”
Unlike the DIY diets, Nutrisystem doesn’t lend itself to a free trial. That’s because of the nature of the diet which begins with a week of fast weight loss which attempts to break you of bad eating habits. This is then followed by months of structured eating and tracking which encourages healthy eating choices to last a lifetime.
A free week of Nutrisystem wouldn’t really be of much value, even if you did lose weight, because they try to take a more holistic, long-term approach to weight loss.
Also, the foundation of the diet is their packaged, pre-portioned meals, so giving away a free week or two of food would be a real money-loser for their company!
Anyway, if DIY is more of your speed, there are a couple of good free trial options out there that you can start today. Here are our a couple of our favorites:
Other Diet Free Trial Options?
While Nutrisystem doesn’t have a true free trial, other diets do. The top app-based diets including Weight Watchers and Noom both offer a free trial before you are charged.
Just know that with WW, you may not get the best long-term deal if you join through their free trial. If you commit to 3 months, then their “3-month savings plan” special yields the best monthly price.
Not all vegetables are equal, and you’ve probably heard the term “non-starchy vegetables” lately, especially if you are on a diet. In fact, both WW and Nutrisystem now encourage you to eat as many non-starchy veggies as you want without having to count points or calories. .
So, what’s the difference between starchy, and non-starchy veggies? It’s an important distinction, so let’s look at what makes vegetables non-starchy, and provide examples.
Non starchy vegetables are healthy! They are low in calories but nutrient-dense; packed with fiber, minerals, and vitamins including vitamin C, K, and A.
While just about every diet can agree that they are good for you, Nutrisystem recommends that you have 4+ servings of non-starchy vegetables each day.
Non Starchy Vegetable Examples:
Here are examples of non-starchy veggies:
Leafy greens like spinach and kale
Not only are these vegetables diet-friendly, but they also have myriad of health benefits and have been proven to fight cancer, too.
Examples of starchy vegetables include:
Wow, those are the vegetables I eat thinking I’m being healthy! Next time try substituting a veggie from the “non-starchy” list.
If you are on Nutrisystem (coupons), you’ll want to count starchy vegetables as “SmartCarbs” instead of vegetables. If you are on Weight Watchers (coupons) certain starchy veggies may not be “free.” Consult the WW points list to see if they have points.
Non-starchy vegetables are great fresh or frozen. However, if you do buy them canned, go for “low sodium” option, as canned food is notoriously high in salt.
Can’t get low-sodium? Washing or rinsing canned vegetables before using them can get rid of a lot of the sodium.
Also, if you are starting a diet, vegetables are essential, but can add to your monthly food expense. If you are starting a diet like Nutrisystem (cost), South Beach Diet (cost) or WW (cost), be sure to account for fresh fruits and vegetables in your budget.
If you are on Nutrisystem or thinking of joining, you’ve probably noticed that all of their promo codes are for your first order only. So, is there a way for existing customers to get a discount on your second order, or towards a la carte food?
The good news is that we’ve found a hack that works for existing customers towards their second and subsequent orders, but you have to be a Costco member.
However, you can also buy multiple discount $100 gift cards to use towards your first order to save even more. So, if your first order is $350, you can buy up to 4 discounted Costco gift cards to use towards the total.
Just enter the code at checkout just like a promo code where it says, “enter gift card.” It’s a great way to save big when you join!
But, you may notice that you can’t enter a promo code for your second order. Here’s a hack to get a discount as an existing customer:
So, you’ve already completed the first part of Nutrisystem (FreshStart®) and are ready for more?
While there are no promo codes out there for existing Nutrisystem customers, you can use the balance of a gift card just like a promo code at checkout.
Example: If your first order total is $350 and you use 4 x $100 gift cards, you are left with a balance of $50.
The good news is that you can use that balance towards your second order! Just be sure to save the gift card with a remaining balance, as you will have to enter the code again towards your second order, including a la carte Nutrisystem food anytime.
A la Carte Food
Want to keep using these discounted Nutrisystem gift cards towards every order? Here’s where it’s a bit tricky, because when you signup for Nutrisystem, they put you on auto-payment. If you cancel before your second month, you’ll owe a $125 cancellation fee.
So, what can do you save money and beat the system?
Once again it comes back to the discount Nutrisystem gift cards. Here’s what you can do:
After your first two orders, you can log into your account and choose to delay your shipments.
Instead of receiving your third (or later) shipment, you can order food a la carte through your account at Nutrisystem.com, using the discount Costco Nutrisystem gift cards.
Existing Customers Can Still Save!
So, while by definition this isn’t a promo code for your second order, it’s a hack to get Nutrisystem food through your account at up to a 40% discount!
From this point on you can resume your auto-delivery shipments at any time, or continue ordering Nutrisystem food a la carte at a big discount; it’s up to you!
If you aren’t loving Nutrisystem, you can even quit after the second month without fear of a cancellation fee.
To get the most out of this hack, watch the price of Nutrisystem gift cards at Costco. While the regular price for these $100 cards is $79, you can find them on sale for as cheap as $59 each. That’s like finding a promo code for a 40% discount for existing customers!
Are you a Costco member? If so, check out today’s price on Nutrisystem gift cards here.
NuMi app review: In 2007 we wouldn’t have imagined a world where weight loss was so simple and portable. We counted our calories in analog fashion. We carried around recipe and points guides.
Today you can say goodbye to all of that thanks to the smartphone. Every top weight loss program including WW(reviews, coupons), has gone digital, and Nutrisystem(reviews, coupons) is no different.
Nutrisystem’s official tracking app is called, Numi, which you’ll start using immediately in Fresh Start, the first week of the program. NuMi syncs with your Nutrisystem plan to seamlessly track your food, flex meals, activity, measurements, and more.
NuMi describes themselves as, “the only app customized to your Nutrisystem® plan. Stay on track and help increase your weight loss.”
So, NuMi is kind of like the GPS of the Nutrisystem plan, helping you track your food and activity while guiding you along on your journey.
The NuMi app offers:
Easy tracking of food including Nutrisystem and non-Nutrisystem meals, snacks, and drinks
Smart reminders help you track your meals, water intake, and activity
Daily health-related articles, tips, and recipes relevant to where you are on your weight loss journey
NuMi resources provide daily motivation and accountability which are both key to the success of any diet
NuMi users can participate in contests, and win prizes and milestone badges, plus get exclusive special offers
NuMi doesn’t make restrictions or promote any specific foods, but instead focuses on daily calorie goals and macronutrient intake to help you meet your weight loss goals with healthy choices and activity.
Before we talk about the best features of Numi, it’s important to understand the concept of “responsive dieting.”
NuMi is “Responsive Dieting”
Everyone is different, so why expect the same version of a product to work for everyone?
It’s been said that while the Starbucks menu itself minimal, their are 87,000 ways to order a drink. Starbucks understood the concept of mass customization a long time ago, (tall vanilla latte, skim milk, 2-pumps, please!) You can think of the NuMi app in the same way. Even though there are only a few Nutrisystem plan options, using the app results in a myriad of ways to experience the program.
That concept is called “responsive dieting;” meaning that the program adapts to the needs of the individual.
How does NuMi do this?
The Numi app considers factors like lifestyle, food preferences, activity level and metabolism. Unlike most weight loss apps, Numi also addresses the psychological components of successful long-term weight loss.
The app goes as far as helping you eat what’s already in your fridge. It will combine these items to create meals within your calorie restrictions.
Oops, did you overeat at dinner last night? No problem, NuMi (not Noom) can keep you on track by adjusting its calorie recommendations for you so that you stay on track. In other words, you won’t completely blow your diet if you eat that piece of chocolate cake or indulge in a glass of wine!
NuMi User Reviews
All of these features sound great, but does NuMi work? Generally users rate the app highly in more than 1700 reviews on the App Store:
You can easily sort NuMi reviews by “most recent,” or “most helpful” to get an idea of what’s good and bad about the app’s features.
Nutrisystem has recently improved NuMi to be, “faster, easier to use, and better than ever,” and customer reviews seem to confirm these improvements. Now let’s take a look at the app’s best features.
Think of NuMi as the Sherpa on your weight loss journey with Nutrisystem. It’s included with all of their plans, (cost?) and is a significant evolution in the Nutrisystem program. If you are thinking of joining Nutrisystem, you should familiarize yourself with the NuMi app, which is central to the experience and ultimate success of the program.
Here are 7 of the best features of NuMi Nutrisystem:
1. NuMi Eats Out With You
Like we mentioned earlier, the NuMi calorie and goal tracking features are dynamic. If you slip-up, the app adjusts your goals for you.
The guys at Nutrisystem also know you’re not going to be eating out of the fridge all the time. This is why they’ve included a handy feature that helps you pick menu items from over 300 chain restaurants. If you stick to the app’s recommendations, you’ll always be within your diet and hit your goals.
2. Behavior Modification
Creating healthy habits starts with daily decision making. You have to intentionally do things different every day to re-wire your brain. NuMi allows you to see the decisions you’re making every day and helps you adjust them appropriately.
Self-monitoring is a proven way to improve your chances at dieting success. Not only will it help you keep track of your slip-ups and adjust for that, it will track your positive progress. You receive real-time guidance throughout your weight loss journey to keep you on track.
3. Syncs With Fitness Trackers
Easily access NuMi from your phone or iPad. Your calorie needs won’t be the same every single day. If you exercise, your calorie needs will be higher on training days than recovery days. This is why NuMi is compatible with various activity trackers like FitBit.
If you own a smart-scale, you should be able to connect it to the app via wifi. Again, in the age of the smartphone, NuMi makes weight loss tracking even easier.
4. Quick Log Features
One incredible way NuMi is flexible: it won’t make you find your exact meal ingredients for logging. If a particular type of meal is “close enough” to the calories consumed, you can just pick a category.
For example, if you ate an average Nutrisystem entree, you just log the “Nutrisystem Entrees” category. You won’t need to go searching for a Nutrisystem hamburger with exact ingredients.
Of course, if you’re type A, you might not be able to handle this kind of fudging on your calorie count. In that case, you’re more than welcome to be as exacting in your food log as you like.
To use the Quick Log feature, tap the circular food icon in your Journal. If you want to be more specific, you can always go back and change it to a specific food at a later time. Just tap the icon once more and remove the “Quick Log,” and add the specific food.
5. A Food Scanner and Recipes
If you’ve ever wished you could just scan the label on your food instead of searching through a database, you’re in luck. Most food tracking apps now include some sort of bar code scanner.
Nutrisystem’s NuMi app includes a database of over half a million foods. And the barcode scanner will automatically find and log any of those foods.
If you’re an aspiring chef, there are plenty of recipes in the database as well. It’s simple to search for a recipe, make it, and then log what you eat.
6. NuMi Meal Recommendations
The NuMi app uses the food database and your personalized profile to give you food recommendations. All you need to do is push the orange plus sign at the bottom of the screen and hit “Food.” You will then have the option of either getting food recommendations or creating your own meals.
7. Complete Challenges, Earn Rewards
One of the unique aspects of the NuMi app is its reward system. Nutrisystem creates in-app offers and track-to-win challenges and motivational tasks throughout the year for its NuMi members.
You can even capture your journey with snapshots of your progress.
Rewards include free gifts, exclusive recipes, discounts, and awesome weight loss milestone badges that you can share with others. You can even earn credit towards a la carte food at the Nutrisystem store!

Hopefully our review has given you a pretty good idea of how Numi works. We also came across this helpful video which gives you realtime footage of how to navigate the NuMi app:. It’s actually quite simple and user friendly:
Want to read more reviews?
Compatibility: NuMi requires iOS 10.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
You can find the NuMi app on both Google Play and the Apple App Store. You can even try it out by downloading it for free, even if you haven’t joined Nutrisystem yet.
Thinking of joining Nutrisystem? Their best special is below, plus you can save even more when you check out our Nutrisystem coupons:
Before joining Nutrisystem, you can also consider the South Beach Diet, which is a similar meal-delivery-based diet. It costs a little more, and generally isn’t quite as highly rated though.
Have you tried Nutrisystem? We’d appreciate it if you write a review for our readers.
Nutrisystem (reviews, coupons) is a popular weight loss program based on the delivery of nutritionally balanced, pre-portioned meals to your door. If you’re thinking about joining, then you need to know about their new FreshStart® program, which is key to the success of the entire program.
The history of weight loss is littered with failed “yo-yo” diets, confirming that he process of sustainable weight loss is more of a steady jog than a sprint.
So, how does it work? Here’s our review, and 7 things you need to know about FreshStart®:
1. How Fresh Start Works
Fresh Start is the first week of the Nutrisystem plan, and an evolution of the former, “Turbo 13” plan. It’s also a bit different and more restrictive than subsequent weeks and months.
Nutrisystem says that Fresh Start will, “Jumpstart your weight loss while developing healthy habits for life.”
FreshStart is designed to get you off the blocks quickly, and then ease you into a steady jog for the rest of the journey. That way, when you start the program, you should see fast, measurable progress which should inspire you to keep going.
Why is this so important? Because motivation is a key element in successful weight loss. Nutrisystem strongly believes that if you see fast, measurable progress, you’re much more likely to stay on track.
2. Fresh Start is Kind of Like Bootcamp
So, why is FreshStart different than the rest of the program? The goal with the first week of Nutrisystem is to wake your body up and get you ready for months of sustained weight loss.
OK, so you won’t be crawling through mud, running at dawn, or screaming, “Sir, yes, Sir!,” but you can think of FreshStart as a little bit like bootcamp.
It’s Nutrisystem’s way of saying, “welcome to the program, but things are going to change!” (put down those potato chips, soldier!)
But, change is often good. If you want to make an investment in your health, and the DIY diets have failed you; FreshStart may be the start of a new, positive change in your life!
3. Here’s What You Get In the FreshStart® Box:
The Fresh Start Week 1 box includes:
7 days of specially selected meals that limit calories to 1200-1500 per day
7 FreshStart shakes high in protein and probiotics
7 Nutrisystem snacks that are high in fiber to end cravings
4. Fresh Start Nutrition:
Here’s how FreshStart compares to the FDA’s recommended amounts:
This nutritional balance achieves 2 important results:
Causes your body to switch from carbs to fat as a source of fuel. That means you’ll start burning fat and losing weight
Ends your body’s craving for carbs. Your body has probably been telling your brain that it needs carbs like bread and potato chips, and that has to stop!
With FreshStart you also get a specially designed Daily Tracker to log all of your meals and activity, plus the Numi weight loss app.
Nutrisystem has designed Fresh Start based on years of research, and the sciencce says that if you stick to the program you should lose weight fast:
5. FreshStart® Sample Menu
As you can see, the program has you eating smaller meals more frequently. Together with the nutritional balance, the goal of FreshStart is to rev up your metabolism and prepare for months of sustainable weight loss.
Wondering what a day of food looks like on Fresh Start? It’s like the rest of the program, but a little more restrictive. Here’s a sample menu:
Fresh Start, and the entire Nutrisystem program, are based on years of scientific research. By restricting calories and providing a specific balance of nutrients, the math says that Fresh Start will result in weight loss.
Is this diet for you? The better question to ask is whether Nutrisystem fits your personality, lifestyle, and budget. (cost?)
Based on thousands of reviews, Nutrisystem seems to be a good option for busy people who prioritize weight loss results and structure over menu freedom. It’s very similar to the South Beach Diet (reviews, coupons) but generally higher rated.
However, if you like to cook and don’t mind prepping meals and counting points, I recommend #1 rated WW instead. (coupons)
If the DIY diets have failed you and you benefit from structure, Nutrisystem might be a great weight loss plan to consider. If you do, here’s their best promotion:
Is Nutrisystem worth the investment? Price is one of the biggest considerations when considering any diet. It’s important to ask yourself whether the considerable time and money you put into a weight loss program is worthwhile. We’ll attempt to answer the question, “is Nutrisystem really worth it” by considering the following:
Nutrisystem: Here’s What You Get
In deciding whether Nutrisystem is worth the money, let’s first look at what you get for your money. First, you should know that there are four plan options. All plans include 4 meals per day including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack. Men get those same 4 meals plus an extra snack each day, so their plans cost a bit more. All Nutrisystem plans start with the Fresh Start program, which includes bars and shakes, and you’ll track everything on the NuMi app.
Here are Nutrisystem’s four plan options:
Basic: This is the most economical way to do the diet, but there is less flexibility and food options. A lot of people don’t like the lack of menu choices, and therefore users might say it’s not worth the money
Core: This is the most popular plan because it’s still economical, but includes 100 foods on the menu and unlimited customer support
Uniquely Yours: This is the best rated plan as it adds more menu variety including frozen foods. Even though it’s more expensive, users are likely to say that it’s worth the price
Uniquely Yours Plus: Everything in the “Uniquely Yours” plan plus 4 weeks of shakes with protein and probiotics, but it costs more.
The foundation of every Nutrisystem plan is the monthly delivery of their pre-portioned, packaged foods that are high in protein and fiber and low in bad carbs for fast weight loss of up to 13 pounds in the first month. Recently they also started offering an optional DNA test kit, but the jury is out on whether it’s worth the expense.
Here’s what’s included in your first month’s delivery:
Really the main difference in plans is just menu variety including frozen foods in the better plans. Now, let’s talk about the price tag.
How Much Is Nutrisystem?
Like all meal-delivery diets, the cost of Nutrisystem can be intimidating as you are literally paying for a month’s worth of food all at once. You’ll still have to supplement their meals with fresh fruits and veggies, so while Nutrisystem does replace most of your meals, you’ll still have to account for some groceries in your monthly food budget.
You should estimate that this diet costs about $10-12 per day, or $350 per month. So, is it really worth that? You can click below to learn more, or find a coupon:
Ok, now let’s look at arguments on both sides to decide whether Nutrisystem is really worth the money:
7 Reasons Why Nutrisystem Is Worth It
Consider the following when determining the cost of Nutrisystem:
Economical: While Nutrisystem appears costly, it’s not a significant extra expense because Nutrisystem will replace most of the meals and groceries that you currently pay for
Time is money: Nutrisystem will significantly reduce the amount of time you currently spend planning and preparing meals
Efficient: Did you know that we waste half of the food we buy? Nutrisystem’s prepared, pre-portioned meals can be considered a more efficient and cost-effective way to eat, as the food is already portioned and no food should go to waste
Structure: Have you tried other diets and failed? You might need more structure in your diet. The math says that if you follow Nutrisystem and don’t cheat, you’ll lose the weight
Usually Works: Most users are happy with their weight loss results, and say it’s worth the money and effort
An Investment: Being overweight is expensive. Whether you are talking about the extra health problems associated with obesity, potential missed work, or superfluous food purchases, being healthy saves money!
Although being on a diet or weight loss program can seem expensive, think of it as an investment in your health.
5 Reasons Why Nutrisystem Is NOT Worth It
Ok, we’re not here to just cheerlead for Nutrisystem. Skepticism is often a good thing, so let’s play devil’s advocate. Here are some reasons why Nutrisystem may not be worth it:
Restrictions: With Nutrisystem you are basically told what to eat and when. If you aren’t good with such structure, you might resent the menu limitations
Do It Yourself Instead: If you have not been on a diet before, consider a more DIY weight loss program like MyFitnessPal or Weight Watchers. At under $20 per month, you’re not risking much!
Food Taste: Bad reviews have called Nutrisystem “return of the TV dinner.”
Too Expensive: While this diet does replace most of your current meals, you’re still going to have a $300+ charge on your credit card bill. Can you live with that?
Commitment: This isn’t a 30-day diet, and cancelling after the first month can be a hassle. If you just want to lose 10 pounds for a wedding, you might not want to commit to 3-6+ months
Ok, those are fair points. Now, back to the fact that Nutrisystem replaces most of your current groceries. Let’s talk about how it’s possible to spend less while on Nutrisystem.
How Nutrisystem Can Actually Save You Money
While on Nutrisystem you’ll spend less at the grocery store and at restaurants. In addition to saving you hours of time on meal planning and prep, their prepared meals replace most of the meals you’re paying for now.
Here’s how Nutrisystem can save you money each month:
Cost of Groceries: They say that groceries cost the average woman about $250 per month, and the average man about $300 per month. (source) Let’s estimate that while on Nutrisystem your grocery bill is cut in half, which means it will cost $5 per day for supplemental food.
Cost of Dining Out: Most people eat at restaurants less frequently while on Nutrisystem, so this is another area of potential cost savings. The average meal outside the home costs about $13 per person, so if you eat 1-2 fewer meals out while on the diet, the savings can add up
Cost of Alcohol: Alcohol isn’t good for any diet, including Nutrisystem. That’s why they ask you to only consume 1-2 alcoholic beverages per week. Reducing your alcohol intake is healthy and can also save you a lot of money!
You still have to buy food: Although spending in these areas is reduced while on Nutrisystem, it’s not completely eliminated. They do ask you to supplement their meals with fresh fruits and vegetables and allow for several “flex meals” each week consisting of one breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack on your own.
If you are currently spending $400+ per month on groceries and dining out, you can see how being on Nutrisystem could result in a significant cost savings. I would estimate that while on the diet your current food spending should be cut in half. In some cases this savings is enough to pay for the monthly cost of Nutrisystem.
Even though most users say that Nutrisystem works, about 1 in 5 people fail on the diet. That’s because no single diet will work for everyone. A diet should be compatible with the unique needs, personality, and lifestyle of the person. While having discipline is important in reaching any goal, you shouldn’t have to change who you are to fit the requirements of a diet.
So, the better question to ask is, “is Nutrisystem worth it for you?” Consider both the pros and cons we mention above, and imagine whether this diet will be compatible with your life.
If it is, then you will likely lose considerable weight, which will be sustainable if you stick with the program. Many people find that the first month, Turbo 13Fresh Start is good motivation because you can lose 13 pounds in the first month. Those kind of results make negatives like food limitations and potential expense more than worthwhile.
The Nutrisystem plan isn’t for everyone, but it’s biggest strength is convenience. People who don’t like structure and wish to have more freedom in what they eat can consider the Weight Watchers diet, which has no prepared meals or restrictions, but requires you to count points.
We hope that this article helps you decide whether Nutrisystem will be worth it for you!

Maybe there isn’t a specific Nutrisystem at Walmart coupon, but there is if you join their weight loss program featuring monthly meal delivery. You can learn more about it by reading reviews, or check out today’s coupons here. As a side note, we recommend skipping the 50% off promotion, as it isn’t the best price long-term.
Nutrisystem 50% Off first Two Weeks: Well, if you are looking to join Nutrisystem, there’s some good news. To launch their new FreshStart® program, Nutrisystem is running a 50% off sale for the first two weeks:
However, while this is a good sale, we did the math and it’s not the best promotion out there. If you plan to stay with Nutrisystem long-term, you’ll want to skip this sale and go for another one instead. Here’s why:
Is the 50% Off Sale Best?
We just ran a comparison of the three top Nutrisystem promotions, and were surprised to see the results. While the “50% off” sale sounds great, it only results in the best price for the first month.
Assuming you stick with the diet 3+ months, the cheapest way to join Nutrisystem is their Nutrisystem/Save40 promotion which locks in the initial low rate that you pay.
You’ll also be able to stack a promo code at checkout to save an extra $20+, making it the best deal out there.
“50 Percent Off Nutrisystem” is a Bit Misleading
Like, we said, the idea of 50% is really enticing, but it’s only for the first two weeks. Because you’ll be on Nutrisystem for at least 2 months (or face a cancellation fee) this sale loses its luster when you do the math long-term.
Before you join Nutrisystem (or any other diet) it’s good to educate yourself by reading user reviews. One of the most important factors is the total cost. For Nutrisystem, that includes the cost of groceries to supplement your Nutrisystem meals.
