49 Weight Loss / Diet Quotes for Inspiration & Motivation

Diet & Weight loss quotes: Even though there are very few good quotes specifically about weight loss, there are some great ones out there that are very relevant to losing weight and setting goals. These quotes focus on believing, the journey, and success and failure.

Richard DeVos once said, “Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A smile. A world of optimism and hope. A ‘you can do it’ when things are tough.”

So with that in mind, I hope that you find these quotes inspiring and motivational, and that they are that “positive push” or, “word of optimism” for your journey or challenge.

If you think a friend would benefit from these weight loss quotes with pictures, please share! (Oh, and if you just need a laugh, we also have funny weight loss quotes too!)

2. Weight Loss / Diet Quotes: The Journey

weight loss quote mountain

Losing weight is a journey. Successful and sustainable weight loss is more of a jog or hike than a sprint. It’s about wellness and living a healthy lifestyle, not about a cleanse or diet pills. Here are some weight loss quotes about the journey:

  • It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” – Sir Edmund Hillary
  • “I’ve learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you. • “Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.” – George Addair
  • A year from now you will wish you had started today.” – Karen Lamb

3. Diet Quotes: Success & Failure

weight loss quote about failure

Diets usually fail because we mistakenly approach weight loss as a race. We decide on a number that we’d like to weigh, (destination) and forget about the journey. To lose weight, we have to change from the inside, with weight loss merely being a welcome side-effect of a healthier life. Here are weight quotes about success and failure that relate to weight loss:

  • Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.” – Og Mandino
  • “Eliminate the mindset of can’t – because you can do anything.” – Tony Horton
  • “You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try.” – Beverly Sills
  • “Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.” – Zig Ziglar
  • At the end of the day, you are solely responsible for your success and your failure. And the sooner you realize that, you accept that, and integrate that into your work ethic, you will start being successful. As long as you blame others for the reason you aren’t where you want to be, you will always be a failure.” – Erin Cummings
change the way you look at things quote
  • When you feel like quitting, think about why you started.” – anonymous
  • “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” (Have fad diets failed you?) – Henry Ford
  • “Success Is Due To Our Stretching To The Challenges Of Life. Failure Comes When We Shrink From Them.” – John C. Maxwell
  • “You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.” – Johnny Cash
  • You are capable of more than you know. Choose a goal that seems right for you and strive to be the best, however hard the path. Aim high. Behave honorably. Prepare to be alone at times, and to endure failure. Persist! The world needs all you can give.” – E.O Wilson
don't regret the past learn from it quote
  • “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” – Aristotle
  • “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?” –Marianne Williamson
  • Remember your dreams and fight for them. You must know what you want from life. There is just one thing that makes your dream become impossible: the fear of failure.” – Paulo Coelho

OK, Now Stop Doubting Your Greatness!

I recently read a book called, “You are a Badass, How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life.”

It was really motivating and inspirational to me because there is an important psychological component to achieving any goal, including weight loss.

So, while I set out to make a page of inspirational weight loss quotes, I quickly realized that it directly related to goals of all kinds; whether related to weight loss & health, career, or any personal goal.

weight loss health quote dalai lama

So, in that spirit, I’m going to end this list of quotes off with one from the book that I think really nails the psychology of weight loss:

We don’t realize that by eating that fourth doughnut, or by ignoring our intuition and marrying that guy who’s an awful lot like our low-down, cheatin’ Daddy, that we’re being driven by our subconscious minds, not our conscious minds.

And, that when our subconscious minds are out of alignment with the things and experiences we want in our conscious minds & hearts, it creates confusing conflicts between what we’re trying to create and what we’re actually creating. It’s like we’re driving with one foot on the gas, and one foot on the brake.

– Jen Sincero, You Are a Badass

So, essentially, to succeed in any goal, we have to put our subconscious and conscious mind (heart) in alignment.

Inspiration: Believe In Yourself!

So, in conclusion, I hope that these weight loss quotes provide a little inspiration and motivation. I also hope that reading these quotes makes you peel back a layer or two and do some healthy introspective thinking.

What are the internal and external obstacles in my way, and how can I start removing them now and living my best life?

OK, I’ll leave you with one last quote:

“Wouldn’t it be powerful if you fell in love with yourself so deeply that you would do just about anything if you knew it would make you happy? This is precisely how much life loves you and wants you to nurture yourself.

The deeper you love yourself, the more the universe will affirm your worth. Then you can enjoy a lifelong love affair that brings you the richest fulfillment from inside out.”

Alan Cohen

Good luck on your weight loss or other personal journey!

Arriving: How a Meeting Works, What to Expect:

When you first walk in to a WW center, you’ll sign in with a friendly Wellness coach and fill out a card with your name. They’ll also briefly mention a little bit about what they have planned for the meeting.

Everyone including the receptionist, team leader, and other team members are really supportive. In fact, every team leader and receptionist has been on Weight Watchers and has gone through what you’re doing. There are no drill sergeants or egos welcome at a Weight Watchers meeting. This isn’t a competition, it’s a safe place for people with common goals and struggles. Everyone who works for Weight Watchers knows that making you feel welcome and comfortable is a top priority.

If you frequent one or more meeting locations, you’ll quickly start to recognize friendly faces. While most people who attend meetings are women, men may frequent them as well. Everyone at your meeting is part of your team, and your biggest sources of support and motivation.

*New: Does Weight Watchers Really Work? (How, and Why?)

How the Actual “Meeting” Part Works:

first weight watchers meeting

Look who crashed a WW meeting! (That usually doesn’t happen)

After your weigh-in, there’s usually a semi-circle or rows of chairs that all the team members sit in around the team leader. The team leader will usually start the meeting by celebrating some of the successes of members who have reached milestones in their weight loss journey. (Some people might even get charms for their WW bracelet as they meet certain goals.) If you’d rather not have anyone know about your success, you can always ask your team leader to keep your milestone achievements private.

Next the team leader will speak briefly on a topic that’s related to healthy living and weight loss from Weight Watchers Weekly magazine. Presentation topics may include “tips to cut back on sodium,” or “ways to lower stress.” You can elect to participate in the interactive presentation, or just listen to others.

The team leader will only involve people who raise their hand or actively seek to participate, so you won’t ever be caught off-guard or unprepared during a presentation or discussion.

  • Q: How long are weight watchers meetings?
  • A: The entire WW meeting lasts about 30-40 minutes with a “getting started”  session afterwards after your first meeting which lasts an additional 30 minutes.

Weekly Weigh-In; Keeping Track

funny weight watchers meeting weigh in

Next you’ll have a private weigh-in with the team leader. The idea of a weigh-in makes a lot of people nervous, but after your first one you should find that it’s nothing to worry about.

When you’re weighed, the digital scale is only visible to you and the team leader, and your weight remains confidential. While the very idea of a “weigh in” makes some people uncomfortable, WW believes that it’s the best way to track your progress and create a feeling of accountability, which leads to better weight loss results.

At your first meeting you’ll get a booklet called, “My Success Story,” in which you’ll keep track of your weight each week like a journal. It’s OK to have an off-week now and then (especially around the holidays!) but it’s also helpful to see your progress in black and white.

The goal of Weight Watchers program is to lose an average of a sustainable 1-2 pounds per week. If you’re struggling or off-track, WW leader always remains positive, and you’ll never feel ashamed for gaining weight or missing your weekly goal.

  • Q: Do i have to weigh in at weight watchers meetings?
  • A: Weight Watchers requires that you weigh in at least once a month (and at most once a week) to track your weight loss. Soon after you weigh in, your weight will appear in your Plan Manager.

WW Meetings Earn You “Wins”

Weight Watchers recently introduced “WellnessWins” as a way to inspire you on your wellness journey.

You’ll earn 50 wins for each WW meeting you attend, which can be used towards rewards like a WW cookbook, free 90-day Headspace app membership, water bottles, and more.

Optional “Getting Started” Session

After your first meeting you’re encouraged to hang around for a casual, “getting started, or getting to know you” session which teaches you more about how the program works. Your leader will probably give you a Weight Watchers introductory guide and packet that explains the point system.

This is a great time to ask questions or hear how others get the most out of Weight Watchers.

What if You Don’t Like a Meeting / Group?

Every meeting location is different, and often there are different meeting leaders at different times. Many meeting locations even allow you to bring your kids, as long as the children are not a distraction. (Child care not available)

You may find that you like certain meeting leaders or groups more than others, so it’s not a bad idea to try more than one meeting time and location and stick with a group or leader you like and change up which meetings you go to if necessary.

What’s the Point of Meetings?

Well, what’s true in the U.K. is also true here; meetings exist for both support and accountability. Meeting your weight loss goal is a challenge, and WW knows that you’re more likely to be successful with the support of a team. In fact, studies overwhelmingly confirm that having the support of a group improves weight loss results.

There’s another good short video about meetings on the WW site (click, then scroll down a bit)

  • Q: Do you have to attend meetings every week?
  • A: Weight Watchers recommends that you do, as the meetings are eductional, motivational, and keep you focused on your weight loss goal!

Meeting Summary

So, that’s the gist of what to expect from Weight Watchers meetings. You may decide that attending meetings isn’t for you, (which is fine!) but you should know that meetings aren’t scary or embarrassing, and most people who include meetings in addition to their online WW membership have a very positive experience, and ultimately are more successful in reaching their goals.

Either way, if you do signup for Online and/or meetings, be sure to use a coupon for up to 50% off the cost with their 3-month savings plan:

WW (Weight Watchers) Point System Explained | How Points Work

ww logo

How the new WW FreeStyle point system works: Understanding the WW, (Weight Watchers Reimagined) point system is crucial to potential success on the diet.

The WW point system has undergone a few significant changes over the years, but basically it’s the same concept: you count points instead of calories to lose weight.

Here’s all about the WW point system, and how it works:

Jump to: How the WW Point System works | How many WW points do I get? | Tracking points | SmartPoints or Points Plus System? | 99 most-tracked foods | WW points calculator

How The WW (Weight Watchers) FreeStyle Point System Works

The current WW program is called, “Freestyle,” and it uses a point system based on counting “SmartPoints.”

how weight watchers smartpoints work infographic

FreeStyle’s point system assigns a point-value to every food based on nutritional content including calories, protein, sugar, and saturated fat content.

When you join WW you’re given a points “budget” based on a number of criteria including your height and weight which you spend each day on food. Members then track their food in the WW app after each meal, and your new point balance is instantly calculated. Although no foods are off-limits, you’ll need to make good choices to stay within your points budget.

As you can guess, healthy foods cost fewer points, and unhealthy foods will cost more. In fact, WW believes that there are a number of healthy foods that shouldn’t cost any points at all. As a result, the FreeStyle point system has introduced “Zero-Point foods.”

Another significant update to the points system is called, “Points Rollover.” WW learned that people’s daily eating can vary, and that their plan had to be more flexible to accommodate this. Now you can roll over up to 4 unused Daily SmartPoints to Weekly SmartPoints for later that week when you need more, like travel, holidays, eating out, of happy hour. These Weekly SmartPoints don’t rollover to subsequent weeks, so use them or lose them!

Here’s a 90-second video about how SmartPoints work, and why the WW point system is superior to counting calories!

How WW (Weight Watchers) SmartPoints Work

Not all calories are equal! Simply counting calories doesn’t account for nutritional value, which should be the foundation of a healthy diet. However, Weight Watchers point system uses SmartPoints, making healthy eating simple. Learn more:

How Are WW Point Values Determined?

Every food is assigned a SmartPoints value in the WW FreeStyle point system based on its nutritional content. Calories, sugar, and saturated fat increase the SmartPoints value of a food, while positive factors including protein reduce the number of points in food. (Protein is good!)

The WW app contains a database of thousands of foods and drinks as well as menu items from popular restaurants for easy reference and point-tracking.

For example, grilled salmon with a baked potato and veggies might only cost 7 SmartPoints, while a cheeseburger and fries will cost you 25 points. (Yikes!)

The point system is WW’s way of encouraging smart food choices, and healthy eating habits that should last a lifetime. Just stay within your points budget and the math says you’ll lose weight!

WW FreeStyle Point System: “Zero Point Foods”

The most significant change to the Weight Watchers points system with FreeStyle is the addition of “zero-point foods.” Healthy foods like most fruit, non-starchy vegetables, beans, and fish are free in the new point system, which includes a total of 200+ zero-point foods!

This is Weight Watchers way of encouraging you to eat lots of free foods like fruits and veggies. Remember, the Weight Watchers point system isn’t based on calories or cutting all carbs. It’s about developing healthy eating habits!

How Many WW (Weight Watchers Reimagined) Points Do I Get?

When you first join Weight Watchers, you’ll be asked a few questions about your weight, height, and age, which will help them better understand your metabolism and dietary needs.

Based on this information WW then calculates an optimal daily SmartPoints allowance for you, with a minimum allowance of 30 SmartPoints per day. You’ll also have the opportunity to earn extra points each day if you’re active.

Exercise can earn you “FitPoints,” which can automatically be converted to extra SmartPoints in the WW app. You’ll get about 1 extra SmartPoint for every 10 minutes of exercise.

When you sign up, you’ll get started immediately, and If you stay within your points budget, you should experience steady weight loss at a healthy and sustainable pace. Typical weight loss on Weight Watchers is about 1 to 2 pounds per week.

So, how many Weight Watchers points per day? The number of daily WW points each person is allotted is usually between 35-45 depending on your specific situation and weight loss goals.

Track Your Points on the WW App:

ww woman app

The most important habit to develop when you’re on Weight Watchers is accurately tracking your Smart Points every day, preferably after each meal. WW has made this a snap with their app; here’s how it works:

weight watchers app iphone

You can also access all of WW resources from the app, including the “Weight Watchers Connect” community. It’s a social network of supportive women and men who are on WW just like you.

WW has a huge database of foods, including popular restaurant menu items. Just tap the “+” on the app to track your food after each meal.

The corresponding SmartPoints will be calculated and tracked, so you’ll always know your current point totals.

A (Tasty!) Sample Menu on Only 22 SmartPoints:

ww smartpoints sample foods
WW SmartPoints: Sample menu for a day of food

So, what does a daily budget of points really “buy” you? Well, you’ll have at least 30 SmartPoints each day to work with, but here’s a sample day’s menu that totals only 22 SmartPoints:

  • Breakfast: Avocado Toast with egg (5 points)
  • Lunch: Cheddar Mac & Cheese w/ Tomato Soup (6 points)
  • Snack: Fresh vegetables with Greek artichoke dip (0 points)
  • Dinner: Chicken fajitas (5 points)
  • Dessert: Chocolate souffle (6 points)

Hey, that’s not bad for only 22 points, especially because most people have a daily budget of 35+ points! In this case you could rollover your unused points to the weekend when you might need them!

It’s easy to track points, and when you join Weight Watchers you get access to thousands of recipes that include SmartPoints values and preparation tips!

WW Point Systems: Smart Points vs Points Plus (What’s the Difference?)

point system works
Weight Watchers Points: I hope THAT’s not how the point system works!

So, what’s the difference between PointsPlus and SmartPoints?

The PointsPlus point system ran from 2011-2017, but as of 2018, the standard WW program is FreeStyle, which uses the SmartPoints point system. This new point system replaced the old system, which was called PointsPlus.

It seems that with the new version of their program, WW is trying to get dieters to eat less sugar and saturated fat and more protein. Because of this, they scrapped the Points Plus system and introduced the new “Smart Points” formula for calculating points.

The new FreeStyle program (using SmartPoints) also gives 200 foods a zero-value in the point-system, including fruits and vegetables. This is their way of telling you to eat more of them!

The WW Point System: The Key to Success on FreeStyle

Around since 1963, the WW plan has helped millions of people around the world lose weight and successfully keep it off. Ironically, one of the biggest reasons for the plan’s success is that it is based on the premise that diets usually don’t work.

Unlike other commercial diets, like Nutrisystem or Medifast, prepared meals are not delivered, and no foods are off-limits. (they’ll just cost you more points!) The cost is also a lot less upfront, but you’ll be buying all your own food

The DIET, Sleep, & Exercise Habits of Geniuses: Einstein, Tesla, & Edison

The (sometimes quirky) diets, sleep, and exercise habits of geniuses – Although we often think of genetics as the main factor in genius, your health and diet has a lot to do with it as well.

Consider that the brain uses a whopping 20% of your body’s total energy; more energy than any other organ. They say, “you are what you eat,” so the fuel you’re putting in your body directly affects your mind.

While we still haven’t invented any pills to quickly transform the average person into a genius (despite the plethora of websites selling such pills!), you can certainly be “smarter” and more energetic with a healthy diet, daily exercise, and good sleep habits.

Let’s look at some of the quirkier diet and exercise habits of a few of history’s greatest geniuses:

Albert Einstein:

albert einstein diet genius

“I have always eaten animal flesh with a somewhat guilty conscience” – Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein wrote the above quote in a letter to his friend, Max Kariel, and soon after became a vegetarian.

Einstein also reportedly slept for at least 10 hours a night, which is even more than is commonly recommended for the average adult. In addition, he also took regular naps throughout the day. But the celebrated physicist didn’t spend all his time asleep, despite the known powers of sleep to solve problems.

He also made sure to get some physical activity. And he walked outside, which is said to further stimulate creative thinking. During his tenure at Princeton, he’d walk to school every day, perhaps inspired by Nikola Tesla, another notorious walker.

Despite getting plenty of rest and exercise, which are known key components of success, his other habits may have been less healthy. Einstein enjoyed carbs in the form of spaghetti and was also a devoted pipe smoker.

“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” – Thomas Edison

Unlike Einstein, Thomas Edison reportedly slept very little, only around three to four hours a night. Although his invention of the lightbulb meant that he was able to work longer hours, he did sneak in quite a few power naps in unusual spaces, which he apparently didn’t count as sleeping, but likely went a long way toward his inventive prowess.

Edison didn’t exercise purposefully and considered standing and walking around his lab all the movement that was necessary. But, he seems to be an early proponent of preventative medicine, at least according to his famous quote that doctors of the future will stop people from getting sick, rather than doling out medicine based on a current illness.

Hollywood probably won’t ever be swept by a trendy, “Thomas Edison Diet,” as It seems that he engaged in some sort of milk diet fad that touted milk as a healthy cure-all.

Ironically, this “diet” may have contributed to his deadly struggle with diabetes, as milk has a naturally high sugar content and caused his blood sugar to skyrocket.

Nikola Tesla:

nikola tesla diet

Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison’s notorious nemesis, also had some interesting ideas when it came to health and could be considered an early health guru in addition to a scientific genius. He reportedly performed nightly toe exercises to improve his brain function.

Tesla also walked up to 10 miles each day, and would even exercise while bathing.

Although he disliked caffeinated products, he was a fan of alcohol and enjoyed a daily whiskey. Like Edison, he enjoyed a daily intake of carbs, but in the form of potatoes, not pasta. One of Tesla’s interests was to live longer in good health to be able to do his work for longer.

Tesla also drank a lot of milk and was an early advocate of avoiding overeating and filling up on vegetables and was reportedly mostly vegetarian.

More Genius Diets

Madame Curie may have discovered radium, but she was woefully inept when it came to eating. During her younger, poverty-stricken years, she ate so little that she eventually passed out. When she was older, Curie reportedly would get so caught up in her work that she would forget to eat and didn’t want to take precious moments away from her lab to learn how to cook.

Of course, in some cases, unusual eating habits may not be the path to genius and longevity. Steve Jobs is commonly admired as a modern genius but eventually succumbed to cancer after a diet consisting of enough carrots to change the color of skin from time to time. Jobs also ate dates and almonds and was a fan of weeklong fasts.

French writer Honore de Balzac was a huge fan of caffeine for stimulating his ability to put pen to paper and even wrote an essay on the value of coffee. Known for drinking 50 cups of coffee at once, he eventually died of caffeine poisoning, which was either a case of too much of a good thing or shows that Tesla was correct in avoiding the stuff.

“I’m gonna go get coffee. #CoffeeTheMusical” (tweet) – Lin-Manuel Miranda

Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda is considered by many (including myself) to be a genius. Unlike Balzac, he’s never risked his life on a caffeine binge, but he does frequently tweet about drinking coffee. (and his dog, Tobillo!)

Many geniuses were vegetarians

“Nothing will benefit health or increase chances of survival on earth as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.” – Albert Einstein

Although geniuses frequently have differences of opinion, it seems that a great many of them were vegetarian, or leaned toward vegetarianism, include both Einstein and Tesla. Not to mention Gandhi and possibly Leonardo da Vinci.

Adopting some of these curious habits may or may not help you enjoy clearer thinking, but tread cautiously because while Tesla lived into his 80s, other geniuses had considerably shorter lifespans, for one reason or another!

If you want to be smarter, consider a healthy (vegetarian?) diet with plenty of sleep and exercise.  You could also consider the popular MIND diet, as well as daily supplements for your mind like Ginko Biloba, vitamin B-12, and Omega-3 fatty acids.

Ironically, our foraging ancestors ate a diet that naturally made them healthier and smarter, but these days you have to make more of a conscious effort!

Gorging Gene: How Our “Hunter Gatherer” DNA Is Making Us Fat Now

How is our pre-historic DNA making us obese? For most of human history, we lived as foragers. This means that for tens of thousands of years we travelled in search of food instead of settling in one place.

Our ancestors’ nomadic lifestyle was dictated largely by the seasonal migration of animals and the growth cycles of plants. (and they were generally in great shape!)

Then, sometime around 10,000 years ago, we collectively decided to settle down. We stopped chasing our food and decided to domesticate animals and plant crops instead.

This relatively swift transition of our species from “hunter gatherers” to farmers and herders is known as the “Agricultural Revolution.”

History and science books applaud this evolution of our species as “progress,” but in some ways we’re still struggling to make the transition.

Although it’s been a long time since we stalked migrating bison, or dug for edible roots in the woods, our DNA still hasn’t forgotten when food was scarce. Enter the, “gorging gene theory.”

“You guys up for Happy hour at The Cheescake Factory?”

The Curse of Abundant Food

Our lifestyle has changed dramatically over the millennia, but our DNA has been struggling to catch up.

In fact, many of us are consuming nearly double the recommended amount of calories each day.

As food becomes more abundant, more accessible, (and lower quality!) we find ourselves plagued by a worsening obesity epidemic, which is now even spreading to poorer, developing nations.

Obesity costs us hundreds of billions of dollars each year, and puts crushing weight on our already groaning health care system.

Even historically poor rural China is now grappling with an obesity explosion, as 17% of boys under age 19 are obese. (Up from only 1% on 1985)

We don’t want to be fat, so why to we have such a problem eating in moderation?

Part of the answer to this question may be found in our DNA, and the eating habits we formed during the tens of thousands of years when we were foragers.

The “Gorging Gene” Theory

During most of human history, food was generally in short supply. We didn’t have the means to preserve or store much of it, so we were always on the move to find our next meal.

Imagine the excitement of our “hunter gatherer” ancestors when presented with a greasy slab of freshly cooked bison meat, or upon discovering a tree full of ripe fruit.

Such a bounty of food was rare, and our survival instincts told us to gorge while we could. After all, there was no telling when we’d be presented with such a feast again, and we’d be wise to store extra calories, especially because our ancestors lived such active lifestyles.

Over thousands of years, these eating patterns became imprinted in our DNA. They seem to be contributing to our weight problems today, as (low-quality) food is cheap and abundant in most places.

obesity dna

Our DNA Still Thinks That Food Is Scarce

If you think of human history as a 24-hour day, it’s really only been in the last few “minutes” that food has been so easily accessible and abundant.

You might say that opening an over-stuffed refrigerator today is like our foraging ancestors discovering a bush full of ripe berries in the woods.

Even in a time of abundance, our survival instincts still tell us that food is scarce, and implore us to feast while we can.

The gorging gene is still in our DNA, telling us that food is scarce. (and we listen)

You could say that by trying to eat in moderation (in a time of abundance) we are literally fighting tens of thousands of years of evolution!

  • Idea: Don’t drive. Take a long walk or bike to a restaurant or supermarket instead. The extra effort will awaken out your “inner-forager,” and the food will definitely taste better!

WW: 3 Plan Options:

weight watchers plan options

Before knowing what Weight Watchers will cost you, you’ll want to decide on the best plan for your needs. While all plans include Freestyle and the resources of WW Digital, (formerly Weight Watchers Online Plus) you also have the option to add meetings or personal coaching. So, what does each plan offer?

  1. Digital (OnlinePlus): Great for self-starters who are busy and want flexibility. Get access to thousands of recipes, online tools, and the WW Connect online community to help motivate you
  2. Studio (Meetings)(Includes OnlinePlus) Adding meetings greatly increases the chance of success in meeting your weight loss goals. Meetings are 30-40 minutes and provide in-person support as well as motivation and accountability. Here’s how a WW meeting works.
  3. Personal Coaching (Includes OnlinePlus) Adding coaching gives you unlimited support via phone or text. Your coach will design an action plan to help you meet your goals that works for your lifestyle and schedule.

I’d compare these plan options to how people choose to exercise. While some people find that they can get up early every morning and jog a few miles on their own, (like WW Online only) others prefer to take group classes at the gym, (like WW Meetings) or add the motivation and support of a personal trainer. (WW Coaching)

WW (Weight Watchers): 2 Payment Options

Before knowing what WW will cost you, you’ll want to decide how much of an initial commitment you’d like to make.

  1. 3-Month Savings Plan: This option requires that you pay for 3 months up front, and offers the best pricing, as you can save up to 50% on your first 3 months.

You might call WW Digital with “online only” the “self-help” option of the three. With 24/7 convenience of access from any device, the Digital-only option for WW is ideal for the self-motivated man or woman on the go, and adds the online support of the Weight Watchers community. “OnlinePlus” only is the cheapest and most popular of the plans.

At initial signup you can opt to commit to only one month at a time, or signup for their 3-month savings plan, which often comes with free registration and a discount.

There is no long-term commitment with either option, although the three-month savings plan assumes that you will complete the 3-month commitment, or may have to pay a cancelation fee.

How much does it cost to join WW, Weight Watchers Reimagined? Digital (only) costs about:

  • $0.70 per day
  • $5.00 per week
  • $20 per month
  • $240 per year

*There is a $20 cost to join, but their promotion for the 3-Month Savings Plan includes free registration

Weight Watchers MEETINGS Cost: (WW Studio)

weight watchers meetings cost

Adding meetings to Weight Watchers Online is recommended, and has been proven to significantly increase success rates, with people who attend meetings losing about 3 times the weight as those who go it alone. In that spirit, the Harvard School of Public Health has said that,

“Behavioral, psychological, and social factors are probably far more important for weight loss than the mix of nutrients in a diet.”

Most people benefit from the support and guidance that meetings offer in addition to the tools and recipes that OnlinePlus offers. Their confidential weigh-ins help add accountability to your goals, which further increases your odds of success. There are thousands of local meeting locations, so check their site to see where the closest one is for you.

“One particular weekly meeting topic was ‘Believe.’ The Leader told us, ‘Visualize yourself at your goal. What does it look like to you?’ I found an old photo of myself and I started picturing myself after my goal, and I started to believe” – Lucy, Meetings member

Monthly fees will run around $50 per month, and you can often join free and get a sizable discount with their 3-month savings plan. As with the online-only option, the fee will be billed every month unless you cancel.

How much do Weight Watchers meetings cost? After any initial promotion ends, (not all meeting locations participate in the online promotions) Meetings cost about:

  • $1.70 per day
  • $12 per week
  • $50 per month
  • $600 per year

*As with all plans, it costs about $20 to join, (starter fee) but their coupon for the 3-Month Savings Plan includes free signup

Personal COACHING Cost:

Do you benefit from the occasional help of a personal trainer at the gym? Some people do, and will pay for the extra assistance and motivation. That’s the concept with optional Personal Coaching.

Personal coaching provides text or phone call guidance from a professional coach alongside digital tools and an action plan designed specifically to the client.

How much is personal coaching? Weight Watchers + Coaching costs:

  • $1.85 per day
  • $14 per week
  • $55 per month
  • $660 per year

How to Calculate the TOTAL cost of the Weight Watchers diet:

retro cooking woman

If you are comparing Weight Watchers to Nutrisystem, keep in mind that, (unlike the monthly cost of Nutrisystem or the cost of diets like Medifast) the cost of WW does not include prepared or frozen food. This makes determining the true cost of Weight Watchers more dependent on how much you spend each month on groceries and at restaurants.

If you’re on a budget, consider that the average American spends about $160 per week on food, which you should add to your weekly and monthly total cost estimates for Weight Watchers.

Think of WW as tools, recipes, and a support system for weight loss that adapts to your lifestyle. While no foods are included (or off-limits), you’ll need to calculate points to stay on track.

Weight Watchers is consistently rated as one the top commercial diets, and it’s strengths include being easy to follow as well as being named the best diets for weight-loss.

More about WW (Weight Watchers Reimagined)

ww logo

Weight Watchers was formulated with a very simple concept; bringing like minds together for the purpose of support in losing weight. In the early 1960’s, Weight Watchers founder Jean Nidetch began inviting friends to her Queens home once per week to discuss the best ways to lose weight.

A housewife who lost well over 60 pounds, the program expanded to what it is today- one of the largest weight loss conglomerates averaging 48,000 meetings per week in 30 different countries worldwide.

Weight Watchers operates on the idea that participants can lose an average of 2 pounds per week using healthier methods than counting calories. The idea is to focus on the individual’s health as a whole, and not just weight loss. The diet is easy to follow, and comparable in price to other leading commercial weight loss programs. Join now!
